Barbie Arms, Marilyn Cristiano and I did an on-stage presentation at the 2008 Xena Convention in Burbank, California. Here are a few shots from that presentation, taken by Twin Carol (sitting in the front row with my camera). Barbie's husband, Ken, also video-recorded the presentation from the front row (we had special permission from Creation to do this). Click the photos for larger versions.
Standing next to the "Evil Xena" costume is Professor Marilyn Cristiano. Barbie Arms is in the center and that's me turned toward the screen in the back. Anchoring the fabric on the table, at the front corners are the two chakrams I won at convention charity auctions in 1997 and 2001. I did not bring the 1999 Xena Sword and Scabbard.
I think that the "Evil Xena" costume is one of the most iconic costumes Lucy Lawless wore: it established her character from the very beginning. We saw a lot of it in the early years as it was the costume they had her wear for a lot of the promotional shots, such as the one on the screen here.
Me standing between the Xena classic leathers costume and Gab's BGSB costume. The sword and scabbard on the Xena costume as well as the GabStaff shown with the BGSB costume are also original props.
Me talking about how the props and costumes got into the public's hands. There were two large disbursements. First was the Turners' auction in Auckland which coincided with the May 2001 Xena Convention. A handful of US fans did go to NZ and participated in that auction.
The Yahoo! online auctions was the main way Xena and Hercules fans obtained original props and costumes. The first part of the Yahoo! auctions were held for charity and benefited the National Child Abuse Hotline (my estimate is that they received around $250,000). Total online sales, administered via It's A Wrap! were almost $1.7 million.
Live or Memorex? Barbie is holding a fake chakram, I'm holding a genunine chakram -- both made of resin. It's difficult to show the differences in the two chakrams in this photo, but the chakram forger made certain marks on the fake chakram to make it look "screen used".
